KUALA LUMPUR: A goldsmith risked his life, running into thick plumes of smoke to help save the jewellery on show in his shop from getting destroyed in the fire that partially destroyed the Dato Keramat Market right here.

Nik Arif Nik Azmi claimed he was alerted about the fire at about 1.15am and rushed to the scene.

“I noticed the flames when I attained and ran to my shop to preserve the jewellery there.

“I am grateful that we managed to consider out all the jewellery there which is approximated to be worthy of hundreds of thousands of ringgit,” he reported when satisfied at the scene on Saturday (June 11) early morning.

He stated the hearth induced at least RM100,000 in damage to three of his shoplots there.

“I consider the fire originated from a clothing store in front of my shoplots ahead of spreading to five other shops and a close by residence.

In the meantime, Mohd Shahril, 39, said he was asleep when he heard an explosion.

“At initially I assumed it was just kids actively playing with fireworks but then my mother started out screaming.

“I ran out of the bedroom and saw the shoplot on fire about 10m away from my home,” he stated, adding that he promptly grabbed all the valuables and documents he could discover and still left the house with his mother.

He claimed the fire harmed his home construction, some electrical appliances as nicely as a stitching device.
