Including traditional Jordan almonds in your wedding? Tired of Jordan almonds in a boring little organza bag? Make your own Flowers: a unique and an elegant way of presenting Jordan almonds at your reception.

Jordan almonds have long been the traditional wedding candy for wedding favors. Almonds have a bittersweet taste, which represents life. The sugarcoating is added with the hope that the newlyweds’ life will be more sweet than bitter.

These favors are a staple at Italian and Greek weddings but are becoming an American tradition as well. The five almond favor is known by many names such as “Bonbonnieres” or “Bomboniera” which translates to a box or dish for candies and “Confetti favors” which translates to confection or candy favor.

Sugarcoated almonds in traditional Greek weddings are called “koufetta”. Odd numbers of Jordan Almonds used are indivisible, symbolizing how the newlyweds will share everything and remain undivided. Tradition holds that if an unmarried woman puts almonds under her pillow, she’ll dream of her future husband.

To make your own flowers, you will need the following supplies: Almond Holders (the wired type), Rose Leaves, Floral Tape, Stamens, Ribbon and Jordan Almonds.

Fold the almond holder by pinching wire in the middle of the leaf over jordan almond. Make five for a five almond favor.

Group together 5 stamens and fold in half. With floral tape, wrap together about half way up so stamens are loose at top. Again with floral tape, tape stamen bunch to one almond holder. Bend almond holder down to the side so that stamen bunch will be higher than holder.

Place the remaining four almond holders around the leaf with the stamens, making sure all the almond holders are facing the same direction. Twist wire stems together and wrap with floral tape at the base of the almond holders.

Place two rose leaves at base on opposite sides of flower. Twist wire stems together with the almond holder stems. Wrap with floral tape from base of flower down to end of wire and back up again.

Cut ribbon 12-15″ long, and tie around stem in a bow. If adding a favor tag, slip card onto stem before tying ribbon.

Use your own creativity in making your flowers. Try colored Jordan almonds to match your wedding colors. You can make the stems long to place in a vase to create wedding centerpiece bouquets. Your guests will love these unique and edible favors.
